2021-2023 • Designing the Loupe identity

Loupe aimed to revolutionize the sports card collecting hobby by bridging the gap between local card shops and nationwide audiences. The app brought the card-collecting community into the digital era through live streaming, enabling collectors to watch live breaks, purchase sports cards, and interact with fellow enthusiasts. Loupe not only provided small card shops with unprecedented visibility and reach but also made the hobby more accessible to collectors of all experience levels.

Additionally, Loupe maintains a physical presence in the collecting space, having its own storefront in the highly trafficked Wynwood Arts District of Miami, making appearances at trade shows, major sporting events, and partnering with some of the most visible sports organizations such as Major League Baseball and F1 Racing. That level of visibility requirs an eye-catching and recognizable brand identity.

As the founding designer at Loupe, I led the creation of its visual identity, helping to establish Loupe as a recognizable household name in the sports card collecting space. My contributions spanned establishing design systems, brand development, marketing design, and team mentorship, ensuring a cohesive identity across all touchpoints.

Key Contributions

Establishing the Design Vision

  • Defined Loupe’s visual identity, creating the logo, color palette, and branding guidelines.

  • Designed the brand’s design library and crafted guidelines for partnerships with PSA, MLB, F1 Racing, the Miami Marlins, and others.

  • Shaped the visual style of Loupe’s physical card shop in Miami and other public-facing assets.

    Building and Mentoring the Design Team

  • Expanded and led a remote design team across the U.S., fostering creativity and alignment through daily syncs, bi-weekly 1-on-1s, and open communication channels.

  • Established specialized roles for product design, marketing design, and branding, enabling focused contributions while maintaining a unified visual identity.

Impact

  • Successfully positioned Loupe as a household name in the sports card collectible space by delivering a brand identity and an app experience that was engaging, accessible, and visually distinct.

Reflection

Working on Loupe was a career-defining experience, allowing me to shape the identity of a product and brand from the ground up. I honed my ability to lead remote design teams, developed solutions for diverse user groups, and learned how to integrate brand, product, and marketing into a seamless experience. Loupe’s focus on community remains a source of pride, and its impact on the sports card hobby continues to resonate.
